He reached the UK in November 1940 after training at 2 FTS in New Zealand. He then attended 56 OTU before joining 232 Squadron on 6 January 1941.

In regard to page 366 of Aces High, the Press identified him from the citation to his DFC published in the London Gazette. On page 367, lines 1–3, reference to his being shot down by French AA should be deleted; this related to fellow-New Zealander ‘Bill’ Kain, who was also serving with 73 Squadron at this time. Line 367 should read “…Kain was one of the only original pilots…” Line 13 should be corrected to note that he was killed on 7 June 1940, not 6th. His mother and sister were en route to the UK for his wedding. They had reached the USA when advised of his death. He is buried in Choloy War Memorial.
